Health Education and Family Engagement
Within the Health Education and Family Engagement program areas, we offer a comprehensive collection of programs that support underserved youth and their families.
The goal is to help them gain the tools and resources they need to increase economic self-sufficiency, develop healthy family relationships, and become more engaged in the community.
This dynamic collection of programs spans all ages and includes:
- Age 0 - 5: Novato School Readiness
- Ages 6 - 14: School-Age Family Advocacy
- Ages 11 - 18: Teen Pregnancy Prevention & Pregnant and Parenting Teen Programs
- Adults: Promotora Training and Support
The Health Education and Family Advocacy Staff work closely with community partners to identify, organize, and train volunteer Promotoras -- natural leaders who serve as community health workers. Once trained, the Promotoras connect families to local resources and work
with NYC’s program staff and other local service providers to address a broad range of health issues that affect them, their families, and their neighbors. Read one of the funders, the
Marin Community Foundation’s article on the value of this program in the community.
If you know of anyone in Novato that could benefit from these programs, please contact our Health Education Director at (415) 892-1643, ext. 227 (se habla español).
